【展覧会情報 / Exhibition information】
DDD ART苑では、韓国を拠点に活動する現代アーティスト YUNSUNG LEE による日本初個展「トルソのコマ」を開催いたします。
LEEは韓国・中央大学で美術学士（B.F.A.）を取得後、幼少期に影響を受けたサブカルチャーや漫画文化を、西洋美術と結びつけた表現活動を展開してきました。
本展ではYUNSUNG LEE による日本初の個展となります。彼がこれまで取り組んできた「トルソ・シリーズ」を漫画特有のコマ割り表現と結びつけ、コマとコマの間にある”隙間” に焦点を当てた新シリーズを発表致します。また、その他黄道十二宮の星座をSDキャラクターに形象化したシリーズ、ラオコン(laocoon)神話をマンガスタイルで再解釈して描いたシリーズなどの一部も一緒に披露いたします。
YUNSUNG LEE の持つ鮮やかな色彩やアニメーションを想起させる爆発的なイメージと迫力、そして新たなコマ割りを取り入れた絵画表現、是非ご高覧くださいませ。
初日となる9月6日(土)19:00~21:00には、オープニングレセプションを開催いたします。どなたでもご参加いただけますので、是非お越しくださいませ。

【アーティストステートメント / Artist statement】※要約文
私の制作は、幼少期に影響を受けた漫画やサブカルチャーと、西洋神話の叙事を結びつけることから始まります。鮮やかな色彩やきらめき、爆発的なイメージを特徴とし、古典彫刻とサブカルチャーの美意識が交差する地点から生まれます。
代表的な「トルソ・シリーズ」は、手足を欠いた古代彫刻をアニメーション風に再解釈した作品です。欠損した姿は、想像の余地を生み、視覚的可能性を広げます。韓国で育った私は、漫画がタブー視される文化の中で成長し、伝統美術との衝突を経験しました。その経験が、異文化の衝突を受け入れながら新しい表現を探求する私の視点を形成しています。
本展では、日本初公開となるこのシリーズを、日本漫画特有のコマやフレーム構造を参考にした非定型キャンバスに展開。イメージを切り取り、重ね、反復することで新しい造形言語を生み出します。キャンバス間の「隙間」は別のイメージとなり、空間そのものを読み解く手がかりとなります。形象と余白、ナラティブと断絶のあいだに生まれる緊張を、視覚的に探求する試みです。

[Exhibition Information]
DDD ART Garden is pleased to present “Torso Frames,” Korea-based contemporary artist YUNSUNG LEE’s first solo exhibition in Japan.
After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) from Chung-Ang University in South Korea, LEE has been developing an expressive practice that combines the subculture and manga culture he was influenced by as a child with Western art.
This exhibition marks YUNSUNG LEE’s first solo exhibition in Japan. Combining his “Torso Series” with the panel layout unique to manga, this new series focuses on the “gaps” between frames. Also on display will be excerpts from his other works, including a series depicting the zodiac signs as SD characters and a series reinterpreting the Laocoon myth in manga style.
We hope you will enjoy YUNSUNG LEE’s vibrant colors, explosive imagery and power evocative of animation, and his new panel layout techniques. An opening reception will be held on the first day, Saturday, September 6th, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Everyone is welcome to attend.

[Artist Statement] *Summary
My practice begins by combining the manga and subculture that influenced me as a child with the narratives of Western mythology. Characterized by vibrant colors, sparkle, and explosive imagery, my work emerges from the intersection of classical sculpture and subcultural aesthetics.
My signature “Torso Series” is an animated reinterpretation of ancient sculptures lacking limbs. These missing figures leave room for imagination and expand visual possibilities. Growing up in Korea, I grew up in a culture where manga was taboo, and experienced a clash with traditional art. This experience has shaped my perspective, which embraces the clash of cultures and explores new forms of expression.
This exhibition marks the first time this series has been exhibited in Japan, and it will be presented on unconventional canvases inspired by the panels and frame structure unique to Japanese manga. By cutting, layering, and repeating images, I create a new visual language. The “gaps” between the canvases become separate images, providing clues to interpreting the space itself. It is an attempt to visually explore the tension that arises between form and space, narrative and discontinuity.
